Letters and reports by contemporary witnesses provide an insight into the everyday life and work of Gustav Mahler in Maiernigg.  For example, when his second daughter was born in 1904, the young mother stayed with their two children in Vienna for some weeks, and Mahler and their cook Elise already went on ahead to Maiernigg from where he wrote to his wife daily.
